What Is Vibe Coding? (And How to Put What You Build Online)

Short answer: Vibe coding means building software by telling an AI what you want in plain English, instead of writing the code yourself. You describe the app, the AI writes it, you try it, and you ask for changes until it works. AI expert Andrej Karpathy named it in February 2025, and Collins Dictionary made it its Word of the Year for 2025. When your project is ready, you put it online with web hosting, a server or the tool's own hosting.

Vibe coding lets people who have never written code build real websites, apps and tools. This guide explains what it is, how it works, which tools to use, what can go wrong, and how to get your finished project online for everyone to use.

Tool prices were checked on each company’s own site on November 8, 2026.

What is vibe coding?

Vibe coding is building software by talking to an AI. You don’t type code. You type what you want, like “make a booking page for my dog-walking business with a calendar and a contact form.” The AI writes the code. You look at the result and ask for changes.

Why is it called vibe coding?

It’s called vibe coding because you work by feel. You describe the vibe of what you want, and the AI turns it into code. Karpathy said it’s “not really coding.” You mostly see what the AI made, say what to change, and run it again.

How vibe coding works

Vibe coding is a loop. You repeat four steps until the app does what you want.

The vibe coding loop Step 1, describe what you want. Step 2, the AI writes the code. Step 3, you try the app. Step 4, you tell the AI what to fix. Then repeat until it works, and put it online. 1. Describe it in plain English 2. AI builds it writes the code 3. Try it click around 4. Ask for fixes "make the button blue" Repeat until it works, then put it online
Describe, let the AI build, try it, ask for fixes. Repeat until it works.
  1. Describe it. Tell the AI what you want and who it’s for.
  2. The AI builds it. It writes the code and shows you a preview.
  3. Try it. Click every button. Fill in every form.
  4. Ask for fixes. “The form doesn’t send.” “Make it work on phones.” The AI changes the code.

You don’t need to understand the code to do this. You do need to test carefully, because the AI won’t always tell you when something is broken.

What can you build with vibe coding?

You can build most small projects in an afternoon:

Bigger apps with user accounts, payments and lots of data are possible too. They need more testing and more care with security.

Vibe coding tools compared

Vibe coding tools come in two kinds. App builders run in your web browser and are easiest for beginners. AI coding tools work on code files on your computer and give you more control.

Is vibe coding bad?

Vibe coding is great for getting an idea working fast. It gets risky when you put an app online that handles other people’s data and you haven’t checked it.

The upside:

The risks:

None of these mean you shouldn’t vibe code. They mean you should check your work before you invite the public in. See the checklist below.

How to put your vibe-coded app online

Your app is only useful once people can reach it. You have four choices, and the right one depends on what you built.

Your project Where to host it Cost
Testing an idea The tool’s own hosting (Lovable, Replit, Base44) Included in the tool’s plan
A website or front-end app (no login or database) Web hosting, such as Hostinger Premium $95.52 for 4 years
An app with logins, a database or background jobs A VPS, such as Hostinger KVM 2 About $7 to $9/mo
A business site you want found on Google Web hosting plus your own domain Domain free for year 1 with Hostinger

A VPS (virtual private server) is a private computer you rent that stays online all day. Not sure which you need? Read VPS vs shared hosting.

Step by step

  1. Save your code to GitHub. Most builders, including Lovable and Replit, can send your project to GitHub (a free site that stores code). This keeps a copy you own.
  2. Decide what kind of app it is. If it’s just pages, forms and pictures, it’s a front-end app. If people log in or it saves data, it has a back end.
  3. Pick your hosting from the table above.
  4. Upload it. For web hosting, upload the “build” folder your tool creates. For a VPS, you or your AI tool installs the app on the server. Hostinger’s Connector lets AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor deploy to your Hostinger plan with a simple prompt. Our Codex CLI guide shows every step of building an app right on a VPS and putting it online.
  5. Connect your domain. Point your web address (like yourbusiness.com) at your hosting.
  6. Run the safety checklist below before you share the link.

Should you keep it on the builder or move it?

Keep it on the builder while you’re still changing things every day. Move it to your own hosting when it’s finished, when you want one fixed monthly cost, or when you want your own domain and email in one place. See Hostinger vs Vercel for how the popular app hosts compare.

Safety checklist before you launch

Ask your AI tool to help with each step. Paste the item in and say “check my app for this.”

  1. Hide your keys. API keys and passwords should never be in the code people can see.
  2. Lock down your data. Visitors should only see their own information.
  3. Require login for any page with private data.
  4. Limit sign-ups and forms so bots can’t flood them.
  5. Turn on HTTPS (the padlock). Most hosts, including Hostinger, give you a free SSL certificate for this.
  6. Keep a backup of your code on GitHub and your site on your host.

How to start vibe coding today

  1. Pick a small idea. A one-page site or a simple tool is perfect for your first try.
  2. Pick a free tool. Lovable, Base44 and Google AI Studio all let you start for free.
  3. Describe it clearly. Say who it’s for, what it should do, and what it should look like. Then test, fix and repeat.

FAQ

Is vibe coding real coding? Not in the old sense. You direct the AI and test the result. The AI writes the code. Many developers now use the same tools to code faster.

Do I need to know how to code? No. It helps to learn a few basics, like what a database is, so you can ask better questions.

Is vibe coding free? You can start free on several tools. Bigger projects usually need a paid plan, and putting your app online costs a few dollars a month.

Can you make money with vibe coding? Yes. People build tools for their own business, sell small apps, and build sites for clients. Plan for hosting, a domain and some testing time.

What’s the difference between vibe coding and no-code? No-code tools have you drag and drop ready-made blocks. Vibe coding has an AI write real code from your words, so you can build almost anything.

What’s the difference between vibe coding and agentic coding? Vibe coding is about how you work: by feel, with the AI writing the code. Agentic coding means the AI takes many steps on its own, like planning, testing and fixing. Most vibe coding tools now work in an agentic way.
