Bluehost vs Contabo (2026): Which VPS Gives You More for the Money?

Short answer: Contabo gives you far more server for the money: 4 vCPU, 8 GB of memory and 100 GB of storage for about $5.28 a month. Bluehost is the pick if you want a VPS with cPanel and a team that manages the server for you, but that starts at about $50 a month.

Bluehost and Contabo both rent virtual private servers (VPS): a slice of a server that’s yours alone, with its own memory and storage. People compare them when shared hosting isn’t enough, or when they want to run an app or an AI agent that has to stay on all day.

On paper, both entry VPS plans cost about the same. The difference is what you get for that money: Contabo’s smallest plan has 8 GB of memory, which is enough to run an AI agent like OpenClaw with room to spare.

Managed or self-managed?

This is the real choice.

Contabo doesn’t sell a managed VPS. If you want it managed, Bluehost (or a managed cloud host like Cloudways) is the way to go.

Running an AI agent

For OpenClaw, Hermes Agent or n8n, memory matters most. OpenClaw needs at least 2 GB, and 4 GB or more is comfortable. Contabo’s 8 GB entry plan clears that easily, and OpenClaw is in its 1-click app list.

If you want the easiest setup instead of the most memory per dollar, Hostinger’s KVM 2 VPS (8 GB) costs about $7 a month through our link and has one-click templates for both OpenClaw and Hermes Agent. See Best VPS for OpenClaw or the OpenClaw VPS guide.

FAQ

Is Contabo reliable? Contabo advertises 99.9% uptime and has been in business 23 years. Its prices are low because it sells unmanaged servers with basic support, so expect to solve most problems yourself.

Does Bluehost VPS come with cPanel? Only the managed VPS plans. The self-managed NVMe plans give you root access with no control panel.
